2:1 is a response to the representation of women in positions of power. Using a contemporary visual style, 2:1 uses real stories to depict the parallel journeys of Alexander and Alexandra as they leave education and enter the workplace. Merging dance and theatre, 2:1 examines the distribution of power between the sexes and how this manifests in our modern world. 2:1 is collaboration between Kansaze Dance Theatre and emerging playwright Emma Dennis-Edwards. The development of this work was supported by Arts Council England, The London Hub of Sustained Theatre bursary ‘Pitch It’ and Arcola Theatre ‘Lab’.
Formed in 2011 Kansaze Dance Theatre creates innovative contemporary dance physical theatre that responds to socio-cultural themes through collaborating with different art forms. The company has performed at Rich Mix, Tara Arts, The Place Resolutions and (Blueprint) Stratford Circus.
